Beyond Coverage: Defense-Proven Private Satellite Networks, Built for Industry
HiSKY SmartLITE takes HiSKY's private satellite network technology into large-scale civilian deployment.
A truck leaves the last cell tower behind on a remote corridor. For the next few hours, the operations center cannot see the driver, the cargo or the vehicle. For a fleet manager, an energy operator or a farm director, this happens every time a remote asset crosses the edge of cellular coverage. The asset is still there. You just can't see it.
The pattern repeats across industries: fleet vehicles on remote corridors, energy sensors where no cell tower was ever planned, agricultural machinery crossing thousands of acres, unmanned systems working well beyond terrestrial range. For many industries, this is the core of the operation, and satellite connectivity has served it poorly: expensive, hardware-heavy and built for one-off installations rather than fleet-wide rollout.
What Standard Satellite IoT Gets Wrong
Conventional satellite IoT falls short in three ways. Hardware is expensive, because most satellite modems were designed for fixed installations, not for rollout across hundreds of mobile assets. Data over legacy L-band services costs enough to make fleet-scale deployment hard to justify. And the connectivity runs through infrastructure the customer does not control: routed abroad, visible to others and governed by someone else's rules.
That last point gets less attention in procurement than it deserves. When connectivity depends on a third-party satellite network, you inherit that network's routing decisions, service limits and failure modes. You see your assets only as far as another organization's network allows. Most operations directors have learned to live with that dependency. They shouldn't have to.
Defense-Grade Architecture at Industrial Scale
The next step for industrial satellite IoT is less about new orbits or frequency bands and more about bringing proven defense technology to industries that have lived with connectivity gaps for too long.
HiSKY SmartLITE takes HiSKY's private satellite network technology into large-scale civilian deployment. The in-house architecture proven in demanding defense programs is now engineered and priced for industry.
It covers every intelligent element of the network: the terminal, the hub and the Space Control network management system (NMS), with no foreign routing or constellation lock-in. The satellite acts only as a bent-pipe relay, so the network stays private even over leased commercial capacity. SmartLITE works over Ku- and Ka-band capacity, on GEO today and ready for LEO, so customers can choose between satellite operators on coverage and price.
“SmartLITE brings the same private network architecture proven across thousands of delivered terminals to industrial operations, at industrial pricing and scale.”
A Terminal Line Built for Mass Rollout
SmartLITE terminals are compact and designed for deployment across many assets at once. For a fleet of 200 vehicles or 500 remote sensors, the relevant comparison is total cost across the fleet: per-unit hardware, per-site integration, connectivity and ongoing support. Satellite capacity is usually the largest of these costs. SmartLITE terminals share a single channel for routine telemetry and command traffic, and a dedicated channel is assigned only to the assets that need high throughput at that moment, so capacity is sized for the fleet's real traffic rather than its peak. The terminals use flat phased-array antennas with no moving parts, available as standalone units or as modules for integration into the asset itself.
When we scoped the SmartLITE line, we started from the fleet, not the terminal. The question was never how to connect one asset. It was what it takes to connect five hundred and keep them running.
Full-Stack Ownership Means One Point of Accountability
Full-stack, in-house development means one vendor owns the terminal, hub modem, packet processor and Space Control NMS. The teleport and satellite capacity can come from the customer's existing providers, and HiSKY can also contract capacity on the customer's behalf. One technology supplier, one support chain, clear accountability.
Built for Fleets, Energy and Agriculture
For fleet managers operating beyond cellular coverage, Space Control provides a single interface for fleet-wide monitoring, dedicated on-demand channels for individual assets and private routing through your own gateways.
For energy and utilities, SmartLITE delivers field-hardened connectivity, with terminals in industrial and MIL-STD variants, for harsh environments where commercial IoT hardware may not hold up.
For agriculture, SmartLITE enables connectivity at scale across remote sites, supporting sensors, unmanned platforms and mobile equipment without costly site-by-site integration.
Multi-Orbit, Satellite-Agnostic, No Lock-In
Standard satellite IoT often ties buyers to one constellation, and with it to that operator's coverage map, pricing and roadmap for years. SmartLITE is satellite-agnostic: it works over any Ku- or Ka-band bent-pipe satellite, through the teleport of the customer's choice.
That gives procurement flexibility over the life of a project. Start on proven GEO capacity today and move to lower orbits when the right constellation is available, without replacing hardware: electronically steered antennas and a firmware-upgradable modem support both orbits.
Why Industrial Operations Choose HiSKY SmartLITE
Industrial connectivity has too often relied on equipment built for other uses and adapted for the field. The result is expensive hardware, complex integration and partial visibility over the assets that matter most.
SmartLITE starts from a different place. It brings the private network architecture, in-house development and multi-orbit flexibility behind thousands of delivered terminals to industrial operations, at a price that makes fleet-wide deployment realistic.
With over-the-air AES-256 encryption, mutual authentication between terminal and hub, and a management system that runs on your own infrastructure, every asset, past every coverage boundary, stays connected, managed and visible to you, and only to you.
